Winter in the arboretum is a time of stark beauty. With many of the leaves gone, the architectural strength and power of the trees are revealed. Their branches and bark form a wonderful range of colours and textures, and last season's leaves are reclaimed and recycled beneath them.
Meanwhile, the wide range of evergreen trees provide cover and shelter through rain, wind and snow.
Whilst the trees and their many residents await spring, the arboretum staff are busy with essential care and maintenance.
