Although the Arboretum is primarily a stage for the magnificent range of mature trees, over the last few years many new and existing areas have been planted or replanted, adding colour and interest to the Arboretum and gardens throughout the year.
Many rare and unusual plants from around the world have been and will be used, bringing the world of plants to the heart of England. The Italian garden has recently been planted with lavenders, rosemary and unusual salvias to give it a mediteranian feel.
In our range of glasshouses we propogate as many of these unusual plants as posible from seed and cuttings, a wide rage of which will be for sale this season and this should hopfully include
Geraniums from the coast of Portugal and Africa including possibly the most impressive of them all, G.Maderense which has huge heads of pink flowers and grows up to 5ft. high
Over twenty varieties of penstemon from the tiny p.hirsutus only 2ins high to the taller p.raven which grows to up to 3 ft tall.
This year we have increased the varieties of plants for sale to include a collection of unusual grasses and Euphorbias, one of which sounds amazing Euphorbia Valdevilloscarpa 3-4ft high covered in golden yellow flowers early to mid summer. A completly new plant to me - hopefully as good as it sounds!.
